About Lucy
Background
I specialise in public rights of way, access and public authority decision-making.
For almost a decade, I have worked on rights of way and access issues in both voluntary and advisory capacities, supporting cases involving unlawful obstructions, definitive map problems, highway disputes and failures of authorities to exercise their statutory duties.
My work has included evidence review, drafting support, Schedule 14 applications, obstruction-related correspondence, case analysis and helping individuals understand how to use the law and procedure available to them.
Legal Training
I hold a First Class law degree – LLB (Hons) from the Open University and I am currently completing the Barrister Training Course with BPP University. I have a particular interest in planning, public and environmental law.
Alongside academic study, I have developed strong practical experience in legal analysis, evidence preparation, drafting, procedural strategy and public law-style challenges involving local authorities and other public bodies.
Experience
I have served as:
-
a correspondent for the Open Spaces Society
-
a member of the Cornwall Countryside Access Forum representing landowner/managers
-
an Access & Bridleways Officer for the British Horse Society
These roles have given me substantial practical insight into access law, local authority decision-making, public path disputes and the realities faced by those trying to protect rights of way.
I have also contributed to public discussion on rights of way, access and related public authority issues, including BBC interview coverage, reporting in The Times, and local media coverage.
What I do
Through Lucy Wilson Legal Services, I provide specialist non-reserved consultancy and support in areas including:
-
rights of way and access disputes
-
definitive map and path order matters
-
planning and enforcement-related issues
-
public authority complaints and ombudsman escalation
-
evidence, submissions and case preparation
My aim is to help clients understand their position, present their case clearly and make informed decisions about next steps.
What Matters To Me
Clarity
Law and procedure should be explained clearly and accessibly.
Integrity
I am always careful about the limits of my roles and honesty about what can and cannot be achieved.
Accuracy
Strong cases are built on careful evidence, proper legal analysis and attention to detail.
Practicality
The best legal strategy is one that is not only arguable principle, but workable in reality.
If you are dealing with a difficult right of way, planning or public-body use and need clear, focused support, I would be pleased to hear from you.
